LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Youngstown State was crowned the 2025 NCAA Women's Bowling Champion. Jacksonville State was runner up in the all or nothing, Baker best-of-seven championship match.
The morning began with No. 3 Youngstown State sweeping No. 2 Nebraska in both traditional (1,073-969) and Baker format games (1,125-1,006). The Penguins’ win in Match 5 secured their spot in the championship final versus No. 1 Jacksonville State.
It all came down to the final Baker best-of-seven match between the two Conference USA opponents. The Penguins took the lead after winning the first two games, 204-199, 248-210. However, the Gamecocks responded with a win in game 3, 258-206. YSU answered back with a win in game 4, 244-226, taking a commanding lead by bringing the score 3-1.
In Game 5, the Penguins and Gamecocks traded strike for strike, keeping the game within a single pin. Ultimately, Jax State surged ahead in the final frames to win match 5, 223-200. With momentum on their side, Jacksonville State clinched Game 6, 232-214, evening the score 3-3 and setting up a final game for the championship crown.
Both teams fought until the very end, but Youngstown State’s
Jade Cote secured the win in the tenth frame, 228-203. This win marked the YSU’s first national championship victory in a women’s sport, as well as the third ever Conference USA national championship victory in history.
