OTF: April 8 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – Liberty’s Omari Lewis, Reese Webster, Paola Bueno and Elijah Sherard, and FIU’s Cole Crkvenac and Arndis Oskarsdottir have earned Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors.  
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Omari Lewis – Liberty – JR. – Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago
Racing at the Florida Relays, Lewis finished third in the men’s 100-meter race, clocking a season-best of 10.05 seconds. The junior Flame beat 49 athletes from schools such as Georgia, Minnesota, Baylor, Florida and Texas A&M. Lewis’ time ranks No. 1 in CUSA and is tied for No. 5 nationally this season.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Reese Webster – Liberty – JR. – San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago
Webster helped the Lady Flames qualify for the 4x100 relay final with a program-record time of 44.61 seconds. The junior from San Juan placed ninth in the women’s 200-meter race with an outdoor personal-best of 23.14 seconds. Webster ranks No. 1 for the women’s 200, No. 2 for the 4x100 and No. 5 for the women’s 100 in Conference USA and ranks No. 23 in the 200 nationally.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Cole Crkvenac – FIU – SO. – New Smyrna Beach, Fla. 
With a mark of 70.28, Crkvenac placed seventh at the Florida Relays in men’s javelin, surpassing student-athletes from Nebraska, South Carolina, Florida, Pitt, Texas A&M and more. His mark from this past weekend ranks first in CUSA and 17th nationally.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Paola Bueno – Liberty – JR. – Nayarit, Mexico
Bueno earned fourth place in the women’s hammer throw at the Florida Relays, breaking her own program record with a mark of 212-8 (64.82m). The junior Flame ranks second in Conference USA and 17th nationally in women’s hammer throw.
 
Men’s Freshman of the Week – Elijah Sherard – Liberty – FR. – Lynchburg, Va. 
Sherard finished 19th in the men’s 400 at the Florida Relays with a Liberty freshman-record time of 46.65. The freshman Flame outperformed athletes from Florida, Iowa, Penn State Baylor and several other schools. He helped the Flames’ 4x400 relay team take 15th place with their fastest time in six years (3:10.32). Sherard ranks No. 2 in CUSA and sits at No. 49 nationally in the men’s 400.
 
Women’s Freshman of the Week – Arndis Oskarsdottir – FIU – FR. – Iceland
Oskarsdottir earns her second Conference USA weekly honor of the outdoor season after her performance at the Florida Relays. She threw a personal best of 51.97 meters in women’s javelin, placing sixth. The freshman Panther defeated competitors from teams such as Nebraska, Georgia, Texas A&M and Florida. Oskarsdottir ranks first in the conference and 19th in the nation (third in the nation among freshmen).
