DALLAS – Conference USA announced Monday its weekly award winners for week four. The weekly awards are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.
Offensive Player of the Week – Amari Odom, Kennesaw State – R-So. – QB – Inglewood, Calif.
Odom amassed a school-record 409 yards of offense (308 yards passing, 101 yards rushing) with a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the Owls’ (2-2) 28-21 triumph over Arkansas State. His 308 yards passing tied the program record and marked the most since 2023. Odom is the second FBS quarterback this season and the second CUSA quarterback since 2019 to pass for 300, rush for 100 and have touchdowns passing and rushing.
Defensive Player of the Week – Kolbe Fields, LA Tech – R-Sr. – LB – New Orleans, La.
The CUSA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year led the Bulldogs (3-1, 1-0 CUSA) to a 30-20 win over Southern Miss, securing their best four-game start since 2020 and first 3-0 start at home since 2019. Fields recorded his first career interception return for a touchdown and led the team with nine tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks. The redshirt senior has led the Bulldogs in tackles in three of the team’s four games.
Special Teams Player of the Week – Kyre Duplessis, Delaware – Gr. – WR/PR – Woodbridge, Va.
On his first-career punt return, Duplessis took it to the house on a 68-yard touchdown return in the Fightin' Blue Hens' (3-1, 1-0 CUSA) 38-16 rout of FIU for the program's first-ever CUSA win. He eclipsed the 100 all-purpose yard plateau with 43 receiving yards on three catches, and 14 rushing yards on one carry. Duplessis’ punt return score was the first by a Blue Hen since
Jourdan Townsend did so at Hampton on October 21, 2023.
Freshman of the Week – Wondame Davis Jr., UTEP – R-Fr. – WR – Ennis, Texas
Davis Jr. produced breakout numbers against ULM with career bests in receptions (six), receiving yards (119) and long reception (44). He scored his first collegiate touchdown – a 44-yard reception – during the fourth quarter. He added another – a 20-yard catch – with six minutes left in the final frame. His efforts helped the Miners rally from a 31-10 deficit as his second TD helped UTEP get within six points with six minutes remaining.
Offensive Lineman of the Week – J.T. Pennington, KSU – R-Sr. – OL – Wilsonville, Ala.
Pennington led an offensive charge up front that amassed 497 yards of offense, including 189 yards on the ground. He played 85 snaps at right guard on Saturday, the most among CUSA offensive lineman in week four, and did not allow a sack, quarterback hit or pressure. Pennington graded out at 86.7 in pass block rating on Pro Football Focus – good for sixth-best in CUSA. Additionally, he was not penalized the entire game.
