FB: September 8 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Conference USA announced Monday its weekly award winners for week two. The weekly awards are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Cam Cook, Jax State – Jr. – RB – Round Rock, Texas
Cook had a career day in Jax State's Conference USA opening win over Liberty, helping the team rack up 338 yards on the ground. Cook toted the rock 29 times for 195 yards and scored twice to help the Gamecocks (1-1, 1-0 CUSA) come away with a 34-24 victory. It was the junior's first 100-yard rushing day, and he had touchdown runs of 11 and one yard. Eight of his carries went better than 10 yards, including a long of 31 yards. Jax State ran for 131 yards in the fourth quarter alone, and Cook accounted for 72 of those yards on just eight carries.
 
Defensive Player of the Week – Kanye Young, Missouri State – LB – Sr. – Menifee, Calif.
Young paced a feisty Missouri State defense in the team’s 21-20 comeback win at Marshall on Saturday, posting a team-high seven total tackles, including three solos, two quarterback hurries, a tackle for loss, and an interception on Marshall's final offensive possession of the night to seal the Bears' (1-1) first win as an FBS club. Three of his stops came on third down to end Marshall drives. Led by Young, Missouri State's defense held Marshall to just 274 yards of total offense and 12 first downs on the night.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week – Garrison Rippa, Jax State – R-So. – K – Locust Grove, Ga.
Rippa hit the second-longest field goal of his career in Jax State's 34-24 win over Liberty by connecting on a 50-yarder. The redshirt sophomore now has three of the program's 10 longest field goals after his second career make of 50+. He was also good on a 24-yarder and all four extra points for a 10-point day. 
 
Freshman of the Week – Jeron Askren, Missouri State – R-Fr. – TE – Wichita, Kan.
In his first career start, the redshirt freshman tight end scored the game-winning touchdown to complete Missouri State's fourth-quarter comeback victory at Marshall. Askren's eight-yard touchdown grab from Jacob Clark with 2:12 to play cinched the Bears' first victory as an FBS program and helped the visitors overcome a 13-point second-half deficit. He finished the game with two grabs for 12 yards.
 
Offensive Lineman of the Week – Bubba Grayson, Jax State – So. – RG – Stockbridge, Ga.
Grayson helped clear the way for Jax State to rush for 338 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-24 win over Liberty. The Gamecocks averaged 6.8 yards per carry and were only called for one penalty in the game. Jax State had 11 rushes of 10+ yards in the game with the true sophomore Grayson grading out at the top of the team chart as a run blocker according to PFF.
