SB: Feb. 16 Players of the Week

DALLAS – LA Tech’s Reagan Marchant, WKU’s Maddy Wood and Missouri State’s Emily Koranda earned Conference USA Softball weekly honors.
 
Marchant garners Player of the Week honors, while Wood is the Pitcher of the Week, and Koranda is the Freshman of the Week.
 
Player of the Week – Reagan Marchant, LA Tech – R-Jr. – 1B – Hilton Head, S.C.
The Preseason CUSA Player of the Year collected eight hits (8-20) with a .400 average, nine RBI and three home runs in a 4-2 week for the Bulldogs (8-2) that included a win over nationally ranked Southeastern Louisiana. She registered at least one RBI in each of the six games, including a pair of multi-RBI performances. Marchant recorded two multi-hit games, with two hits against Eastern Illinois and three against St. Thomas. In LA Tech’s Mardi Gras Mambo opener against New Mexico, she called game with a solo shot to right field to walk off the Lobos. Marchant helped the team close out the weekend in the win column with a three-run blast as part of a seven-run inning in a 7-4 victory over Georgia State. She also homered in a 7-3 victory over SIUE.
 
Pitcher of the Week – Maddy Wood, WKU – Senior – Corydon, Iowa
Wood (3-0) posted arguably the best weekend of her career, securing wins over both Army and Mercer in a 2-2 week for the Hilltoppers (6-3). In her 57-pitch performance against Army, she threw 4.2 innings, striking out five along the way and allowing only one earned run and two hits. Against Mercer, she only needed 73 pitches to throw a six-inning complete game that included another five strikeouts while limiting the Bears to only two runs on four hits. She posted a 1.97 ERA with a .158 opponent batting average and just two walks.  
 
Freshman of the Week – Emily Koranda, Missouri State – Pitcher – Marion, Iowa
Koranda went 2-0 with a save across an undefeated weekend for the Bears (6-3). She tossed 12.1 innings without allowing an earned run and allowed just four hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Koranda tossed a shutout against Jackson State that included five strikeouts and two hits allowed. She hurled two scoreless innings in relief against Rhode Island to earn her first career save. Koranda finished the weekend by tossing 4.1 hitless innings in an appearance against East Texas A&M and struck out four on her way to the win.
