WSOC: August 18 Players of the Week

DALLAS – WKU’s Makenna Egan and Mia Riddick, and MTSU’s Scottie Newton earned the first Conference USA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors of the 2026 season.

Offensive Player of the Week – Makenna Egan, WKU – So. – Palm Harbor, Fla.
After earning CUSA Freshman of the Year in 2025, Egan begins the new season with more honors. The sophomore forward scored WKU’s first goal of the season and proved to be the game-winner in their road matchup with Indiana State on Sunday. Egan totaled two shots on goal and played in over 120 minutes in their 1-0-1 start to 2026.

Defensive Player of the Week – Scottie Newton, MTSU – So. – Franklin, Tenn.
Newton was named Defensive Player of the Week after playing in all but six minutes for the Blue Raiders (2-0-0) in their first two contests. The sophomore from Franklin, Tenn., guided the back line to two clean sheets and the least amount of shots faced out of any CUSA team. In addition to her excellent defense, Newton displayed an offensive threat at times with her well-placed header assist for MTSU’s second goal against Southern Indiana.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Mia Riddick, WKU – R-Sr. – Roswell, Ga.
Riddick was superb in net for WKU as she notched back-to-back clean sheets to open the 2026 campaign. The redshirt senior combined for eight saves on the week, including six against SEC foe Missouri. Riddick made a quick acting save off a header that came after a corner kick against the Tigers and made a tough punch out on a hard-kicked shot against Indiana State.
