MEMBERSHIP TIMELINE

1995: Conference USA announces its formation on April 24, 1995, in Chicago, site of the league’s first headquarters. Mike Slive is the league’s first Commissioner. Charter members include Charlotte, Cincinnati, DePaul, Houston, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, Saint Louis, Southern Miss, Tulane, UAB and USF.

1996: Houston joins competition for the fall of 1996. 

1996: East Carolina joins the league (September) as a football member.

1997: The United States Military Academy (Army) joins the league (March) as a football member.

1997: East Carolina begins football competition.

1998: Army begins football competition.

1999: UAB begins football competition. TCU and East Carolina join the league in all sports.

2001: TCU and East Carolina begin competition in all sports. 

2002: Britton Banowsky is named Commissioner (October), succeeding Mike Slive.

2003: South Florida begins football competition.

2004: The Conference USA headquarters moves from Chicago, Ill., to Dallas, Texas.

2005: Marshall, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, UCF and UTEP become league members in all sports.

2013: Charter member Charlotte returns to the league, joined by new members FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Old Dominion and UTSA.

2014: WKU joins the league (July).

2015: Judy MacLeod becomes the league’s third Commissioner (October).

2021: Jacksonville State, Liberty, New Mexico State and Sam Houston State added (November).

2022: Kennesaw State joins the league (October).

2023: Jacksonville State, Liberty, New Mexico State and Sam Houston State begin competition (July).

2024: Kennesaw State begins competition (July).

2025: Delaware and Missouri State begin competition (July).
