Ramsey completed 31 of 46 passes to nine receivers for 403 yards as Tulane (3-2) won its fifth straight over Louisiana-Lafayette (0-6). Adrian Burnette finished
with 11 catches for 191 yards and Kerwin Cook had eight catches for 103 yards.
Ramsey ran a yard for a touchdown early in the first quarter, threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Mike Truax late in the opening period, and connected with Adrian
Burnett on a 40-yard pass play midway through the second quarter to stake Tulane to a 21-0 lead.
Louisiana-Lafayette tied at 24 in the third quarter on a 76-yard pass play from Jon Van Cleave to Andre George and took a 31-24 lead on Nick Dugas' 7-yard
touchdown run with 39 seconds left in the quarter.
Tulane tied it on Ramsey's 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter and took a 38-31 lead on Brent Hocke's 2-yard run.
Louisiana-Lafayette drove 86 yards in nine plays to score on Jerome Coleman's 10-yard run, making it 38-37 with 3:44 left.
Shelvin, a 255-pound defensive lineman, blocked Brent Bergeron's extra-point try to preserve the victory.
Van Cleave completed 16 of 31 passes for 282 yards, and Coleman finished with 114 yards on 13 carries.
