Dana Dimel
|
University of Houston Director of Athletics Dave Maggard announced today that head football coach Dana Dimel will be relieved of his coaching duties at the conclusion of the season finale against Louisville next Saturday, November 30, at John O?Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
?I have met with Coach Dimel this afternoon and advised Coach Dimel of our decision to change the leadership of our football program,? commented Maggard. ?Coach Dimel will remain to coach the Louisville game next Saturday. The University will honor its obligations under its contract with Coach Dimel.?
The search for a successor will begin immediately. While there is no specific timetable, the search will be done as thoroughly and expeditiously as possible in consideration of recruiting as well as the stability of the
current team.
There will be no public comments regarding names of candidates nor those who may be interviewed for the position.
Dimel was hired on December 12, 1999, to replace Kim Helton who had coached the Cougars from 1993 until 1999. Dimel came to Houston after three years as the head coach at Wyoming, where he posted a 23-12 (.657) record.
In his three-year tenure with Houston, Dimel?s teams have recorded an overall record of 7-26, including a 4-7 mark this season heading into the finale of the year next Saturday versus Louisville.
