TF: 2017 Track & Field Athletes of the Year Announced

IRVING, Texas – UTEP claimed two superlative Conference USA Track & Field honors as freshman Emmanuel Korir and sophomore Tobi Amusan were named C-USA Male and Female Track Athletes of the Year, respectively. Rice junior Scott Filip earned C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Year accolades after being named to the USTFCCCA Outdoor First Team All-American Team for the second time in his illustrious career. Rounding out the league’s superlative honors is Middle Tennessee senior Elizabeth Dadzie who earns her second consecutive Female Field Athlete of the Year and was named the High Point Scorer of the Meet at the C-USA Outdoor Championship.
 
Emmanuel Korir, UTEP – Freshman| Iten, Kenya
Korir clocked a world best 1:14.97 in the 600m run at the New Mexico Cherry & Silver meet, which was his first race on an indoor 200m banked track. He captured the NCAA title in the 800m for both indoor (1:47.48) and outdoor (1:45.03). The freshman is just one of three athletes in the world to run an outdoor sub-45 400m and sub-1:44 in the 800m. Korir was named to The Bowerman Watch List three times during the season and was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week twice this year.
 
Scott Filip, Rice – Junior | Bloomingdale, Illinois
Filip earned USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors with a fifth-place finish in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The junior was named C-USA Performer of the Meet after winning the C-USA Outdoor decathlon title with a C-USA record 7837 points. A C-USA Athlete of the Week, Filip scored 7915 points at the Texas Relays, ranked seventh in the nation and also won the C-USA Indoor heptathlon title (5680 points).
 
Tobi Amusan, UTEP – Sophomore | Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria
Amusan led the way scoring 25 points at the C-USA Indoor Championship and notching a meet record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.01 record. Amusan qualified to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles where she notched a sixth-place showing. She ran at the 2017 Clyde Little Field Texas Relays in the 100m hurdles taking gold with a meet record time of 12.72. The Nigeria native scored 24.5 points at the C-USA Outdoor Championship and also won the 100m hurdles title at the NCAA Championships.
 
Elizabeth Dadzie, Middle Tennessee – Senior | Kumasi, Ghana
Dadzie was named Second Team All-American at the NCAA Championships as well as Female Performer of the Meet at the C-USA Championships. She broke a conference meet record in the heptathlon with 5,832 points, while placing in the top three in each event at the C-USA Championships. Dadzie was first in the long jump and second in the 100-meter hurdles at the C-USA Championships.
