XC: InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Teams

IRVING, Texas – Conference USA cross country student-athletes excelled both on the course and in the classroom this season as 12 were selected to the 2018 InTouch Credit Union C-USA Men’s and Women’s All-Academic Teams. Seven schools were represented with North Texas leading the league with four honorees.

Three male student-athletes return as repeat all-academic selections from 2017 – Charlotte’s Todd Gunzenhauser, Florida Atlantic’s Lachlan Shiver and Louisiana Tech’s Conner Killian.
 
Gunzenhauser boasts a 3.725 grade-point average (GPA) in mechanical engineering. In 2017, he was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and was honored by the 49ers as a Perfect Niner. The redshirt-sophomore was honored for his athletic accomplishments as an All-Conference Third Team honoree last season.
 
Shiver has maintained a 3.951 GPA in biological sciences. He is a two-time C-USA Commissioner Academic Medal recipient and broke a school record this season in the 5K. He was named C-USA Athlete of the Week once in 2018.
 
Killian is majoring in Forestry and has produced a 3.92 GPA. The SAAC representative has been named to the C-USA Commissioner’s honor roll twice. The redshirt sophomore recorded two top-10 finishes in the three events he raced in this season.
 
North Texas’ Jack Beaumont and Florian Lussy earned a spot on the all-academic team for the first time in their careers.
 
Beaumont holds a 3.909 GPA as a pre-business major. The sophomore participated in two of three meets in 2018 for the Mean Green, taking fourth at the Ken Garland Invitational in the four-mile. He finished in the top five twice last campaign.
 
Lussy, a two-time 2018 C-USA Athlete of the Week, has maintained a 3.857 GPA in recreation, event & sport management. The 2017 Third-Team All-Conference selection captured the four-mile title this season at the Ken Garland Invitational.
 
Rounding out the men’s team is Rice’s Clay Musial. The ecology & evolutionary biology and english double major boasts a 3.43 GPA. The senior was named C-USA Athlete of the Week once this season and is a three-time C-USA Academic Honor Roll selection.
 
Returning as an all-academic honoree on the women’s side is Charlotte’s Katie Tomasi. The junior biology major has a 3.723 GPA. She was selected to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll last year and was a member of the first team to win a conference championship in program history. This season, she has competed in all six meets, opening with a fifth-place finish at the Charlotte Preview.
 
Two North Texas’ female student-athletes – Cassidy Adams and Rea Iseli – were named to this year’s all-academic team.
 
Adams is earning her master’s in business administration while maintaining an impressive 3.931 GPA. The Justin, Texas, native participated in all three event’s for the Mean Green this season and clocked in at 16th at the Ken Garland Invitational in the 5K.
 
Iseli holds a perfect 4.000 GPA in interdisciplinary studies. The graduate student was named C-USA Athlete of the Week once this season. She finished third at the Ken Garland Invitational and posted a top-10 finish at the Chile Pepper Festival. She was a Third-Team All-Conference honoree in 2017.
 
Marshall’s Abigail Short has maintained an unblemished 4.000 GPA as a biology major in an accelerated seven-year medical program. The junior is a two-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient. She has competed in every meet since her freshman season, running a career-best 5K time at last year’s conference championships.
 
FIU’s Sherilene Gelderblom, a two-time conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection, has a 3.85 GPA in interdisciplinary studies. She is also a member of FIU’s Honors College. The senior led the Panthers to victory this season with a first-place finish at UCF’s Knight Invite.
 
Rounding out the women’s team is Louisiana Tech’s Elia Nero. Nero boasts a 3.88 GPA while majoring in political science. The junior is a two-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal. She recorded two top-10 finishes in the three races she competed in this season, including a season-best seventh place finish in the Lois Davis Invitational 5K.
