WSOC: October 11 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Rice’s Delaney Schultz and Bella Killgore, along with UAB’s Hannah Clark, earned 2022 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, presented by Blenders Eyewear.

Schultz and Killgore are the Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, after leading the Owls to a 2-0 victory over North Texas which vaulted the Owls to the top of the C-USA table. Rice (7-7, 5-0 C-USA) hosts UTEP at 7 p.m. CT Thursday before heading to the East Coast to take on Charlotte at Noon Sunday.

Clark garners Defensive Player of the Week honors after netting the equalizer and helping limit UTSA to just three shots in a 1-1 draw on Sunday. The Blazers (7-2-4, 4-0-2) look to extend their seven-match unbeaten streak with a home match against Charlotte at 6 p.m. Thursday, followed by a road contest at WKU at Noon Sunday.

Offensive Player of the Week – Delaney Schultz, Rice – Senior – St. Louis, Mo.
The Preseason Offensive Player of the Year collected her first weekly honor of the season after scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over North Texas that moved the Owls into first place. Schultz headed home a cross from Madison Kent to put Rice on the board, and she delivered a shot from the top of the box into the back of the net to double the Owls’ lead. Schultz was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Defensive Player of the Week – Hannah Clark, UAB – Freshman – Hendersonville, Tenn.
Clark’s first career goal came at an opportune time, leveling the score in the 74th minute and helping the Blazers save a point to stay within one point of Rice at the top of the table. After allowing an early UTSA goal, she led a UAB back line that surrendered just two shots in the remaining 87 minutes to a Roadrunner squad that came in averaging 15.79 shots per game.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Bella Killgore, Rice – Senior – Houston, Texas
Killgore stood strong in net for the Owls, racking up 11 saves on 18 shots faced in a 2-0 win over North Texas. She was tested early and often, diverting four Mean Green attempts on goal within the opening nine minutes. By halftime, Killgore had already stopped seven shots. In the win, she tied Amy Czyz for the most victories in program history (42) and her 11 saves moved her into a tie for fifth in C-USA history with 351.
