DALLAS – Charlotte’s Maya Singletary repeats as Female Track Athlete of the Week with a nationally ranked time in the 400m. Rice’s shot putter, Erna Gunnarsdottir and weight thrower, Nick Hicks were named Field Athletes of the Week after each placing first at the Houston Invitational. Middle Tennessee’s Alaba Akintola earns Male Track Athlete of the Week after qualifying for the NCAA championships. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.

C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Week- Maya Singletary, Charlotte, R-Sr., Raeford, N.C.
Singletary finished in second place in the 400m race at the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson, S.C. Her time of 54.04 leads the conference so far this season and is currently the 42nd ranked time in the NCAA. Singletary also anchored the C-USA 2nd ranked 4x400 relay with 52.53 leg.
 
C-USA Female Field Athlete of the Week- Erna Gunnarsdottir, Rice, Sr., Mosfellsbaer, Iceland
Gunnarsdottir had a fantastic showing at the Houston Invitational, winning the shot put with a personal best throw of 56'10.75" which places her fifth in the U.S. as of yesterday afternoon and first in the DI South Central region.
 
C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week- Alaba Akintola, Middle Tennessee, Sr., Ondo, Nigeria
Akintola ran in the New Mexico Team Open this past weekend, winning in the 60m final with a time of 6.61s. In the 200m race, he placed second setting a new best C-USA top time of 20.70. Akintola marks qualified him for the NCAA championships.
 
C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week- Nick Hicks, Rice, Sr., San Marcos, Texas
Hicks continues to shine early in the 2023 indoor season, winning the weight throw for the second consecutive week at the Houston Invitational with a throw of 65'10.50". The native from San Marcos, Texas, throw places him third in the DI South Central region and first in C-USA.
