ITF: February 7 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – Charlotte’s Maya Singletary and Justin Leaston earns Female and Male Track Athletes of the Week after each broke program records that were more than a decade old in the 400m and 60m hurdles. North Texas’ KeAyla Dove who currently ranks No. 8 in the nation in shot put and UTSA’s long jumper, Jemuel Miller who moved into second on the programs all-time performance list claims Female and Male Field Athletes of the Week. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.

C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Week- Maya Singletary, Charlotte, R-Sr., Raeford, N.C.
Singletary claims Female Track Athlete of the Week for the third consecutive week after she won the 400m at the South Carolina Invitational, while also breaking the Charlotte indoor record. Singletary's time of 53.16 broke the previous 400m record that was set 17 years ago. This mark is currently the fastest time in the conference and ranks 23rd in the Division I this season.
 
C-USA Female Field Athlete of the Week- KeAyla Dove, North Texas, So., Houston, Texas
Dove broke the North Texas school record in the women's shot put for the third time in four weeks at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. After recording three throws of just over 53 feet, Dove launched her second-to-last throw 57-3 (17.45m) to improve upon her previous school record of 56-1.25 (17.10m). Dove's new best mark ranks No. 8 in the nation. The sophomore from Houston, Texas, finished as the runner-up at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week- Justin Leaston, Charlotte, R-Jr., Raleigh, N.C.
Leaston won the 60m hurdles at the South Carolina Invitational with a time of 7.72. This time broke the Charlotte school record in the 60m hurdles that stood for 12 years. Leaston's time of 7.72 is currently ranked as the 16th fastest time in Division I this season.
 
C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week- Jemuel Miller, UTSA, So., Bridgetown, Barbados
Miller won the long jump and posted a narrow runner-up finish in the triple jump at the Scarlet Knights Open last weekend in New York City. The sophomore All-American leaped to a personal-best distance of 7.63 meters (25-0.5) to capture the gold medal in the long jump and move into second on UTSA's all-time performers list, just two centimeters shy of the school record. Miller placed second in the triple jump with a mark 15.40m (50-6.25), only four centimeters behind teammate Gabriel Binion's winning mark of 15.44m (50-8). Miller currently leads C-USA and ranks 23rd in the nation in the triple jump and stands second in the league and 35th nationally in the long jump.
