Denae McFarlane who made three top-five finishes claims Female Track Athlete of the Week. Rice’s
Mckyla Van der Westhuizen who ranks second nationally in javelin earns field honors. Charlotte’s
Nick Scudder was named Male Track Athlete of the Week after breaking his own record in the 10,000-meter race. UTSA’s
Jacob Jenkins earns field honors ranking nationally in triple and long jump. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by

C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Week- Denae McFarlane, UTEP, Jr., Clarendon, Jamaica
McFarlane competed in a trio of events, seeing success in all three at the Willie Williams Invitational on March 24-25. McFarlane was the third leg in the women's 4x100-meter relay, as the Miners clocked in a 44.31 for a first place showing. The UTEP relay team ranks first in Conference USA, while ranking fifth nationally. UTEP's time also ranks tied for second in the program's all-time top-10 list. McFarlane clocked in a personal-best 11.48, placing second in the women's 100-meter dash. Her time ranks first in C-USA and 20th nationally. Her previous best was an 11.52. McFarlane opened the meet on March 24 by setting her personal best in the women's 200-meter dash, turning a time of 23.91 (24.02 was previous best). Her time ranks third in C-USA.
C-USA Female Field Athlete of the Week- Mckyla Van der Westhuizen?, Rice, Fr., Gauteng, South Africa
Van der Westhuizen had a strong showing at the 40th Victor Lopez Classic at Rice University, winning the javelin with a throw of 56.68m (185-11). The mark currently places her at first in C-USA, first in the NCAA South-Central region and second in the NCAA.
C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week- Nick Scudder, Charlotte, Jr., Raleigh, N.C.
Scudder set the school record in the 10,000m at the Raleigh Relays, finishing with a time of 28:28.81. Scudder was also the previous record holder in the event and set the previous record in 2022 at last season's Raleigh Relays. So far this season, this 10,000m time for Scudder is the third-ranked time in the country and leads Conference USA.
C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week- Jacob Jenkins, UTSA, Jr., Round Rock, Texas
Jenkins won the triple jump and finished fourth in the long jump at the Charles Austin Classic last weekend in San Marcos, Texas. A junior transfer from Round Rock, Texas, he registered his first win as a Roadrunner after posting a mark of 15.00 meters (49-2.5) on his second trip down the runway in the triple jump. He also leaped to a season-best distance of 7.37m (24-2.25) to finish fourth in the long jump at the two-day meet. Jenkins currently ranks third nationally and second in C-USA in the triple jump with his season-best mark of 15.77m (51-9) posted at the Longhorn Invitational, and he now stands fifth in the league and 41st in the NCAA in the long jump.
