How did playing college sports shape who you are today?
College sports have taught me very valuable lessons that I will be able to take into the next stages of my life. Time management, leadership, patience, and hard work are just a few lessons that I have learned over my time as a student-athlete. I am thankful for the challenges that I have faced while playing college sports because it has allowed me to grow as an individual.
What career path are you pursuing after college?
After finishing my undergrad, I will pursue getting my Master of Architecture. After grad school, I will look to work as a licensed architect for an architecture firm.
Which class has been your favorite and why?
My favorite class that I have been in was my senior research studio. This class allowed me to take everything that I learned over the course of architecture school and implement it into one project. I was able to have full creative freedom and design the building that I wanted.
What’s the best advice you ever got from a coach or teammate?
Control what you can control and don’t take anything for granted.
What advice would you share with today’s student-athletes?
Advice that I have for today’s student athletes is to manage your time wisely because balancing academics and sports isn’t easy. Also remember that you are more than just your sport. Explore who you are beyond the game.
How has being a student-athlete helped you succeed in the classroom?
Being a student-athlete has given me an extra line of support that not all students get. There are always people within the athletics department including coaches and support staff that check in on how you are doing personally and in the classroom. Having that support allows student-athletes to feel heard and to get help when it is necessary.
What’s your best tip for balancing athletics and academics?
The best tip for balancing athletics and academics is staying organized and over communicating with your coaches and professors. Staying on top of your tasks allows you to be less stressed throughout the semester and within your sport.
