DALLAS – Conference USA announced Monday its weekly award winners for week 12. The weekly awards are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.
Offensive Player of the Week – Jacob Clark, Missouri State – Sr. – QB – Rockwall, Texas
Clark set a Missouri State record with 30 completions in Saturday's home win over UTEP, completing 30-39 (76.9%) tosses for 330 yards with no interceptions and four touchdowns. He completed passes to 10 different receivers and manufactured six scoring drives while helping the Bears (7-3, 5-1 CUSA) rack up 436 yards of total offense with 27 first downs. Clark eclipsed 300+ passing yards for the 10th time in his career and matched a Bears career record with his 19th career 200+ yard passing game. He was surgical in the first half, helping the Bears build a 24-7 lead on 18-23 passing for 218 yards and two scores.
Defensive Player of the Week – Caleb Nix, Jacksonville State – Jr. – S – Phenix City, Ala.
Nix becomes the first CUSA player to repeat as Defensive Player of the Week after he recorded a pair of interceptions for Jax State (7-3, 6-0 CUSA) in their 35-26 win over Kennesaw State in a battle of teams that started the day at 5-0 in Conference USA. His first came in the second quarter with the Owls threatening as Nix intercepted a pass at his own 10-yard line and returned it 26 yards. It marked the fourth consecutive game with a takeaway for the redshirt junior and third consecutive game with an interception. Additionally, he was second on the tackle chart with 11 total stops, including eight of the solo variety.
Special Teams Player of the Week – Christian Pavon, Sam Houston – Sr. – K – Willis, Texas
Pavon was huge in the Bearkats’ 26-23 win over Delaware on Saturday, the first win of the season in CUSA play for Sam Houston (2-8, 1-5 CUSA). He nailed 4-5 field goal tries, hitting each of his first four - including a pair of 48-yarders - to give Kats points when they needed them most. He hit a 33-yarder on the last play of the first half and then three more in the second half to finish one made kick short of the program record. It was only the third time since 1991 a Bearkat kicker has made four or more field goals in a single game.
Freshman of the Week – Roman Gagliano, MTSU – R-Fr. – QB – Opelika, Ala.
Gagliano got his first collegiate start against WKU and responded in resounding fashion. He accounted for 471 yards of total offense to equal the second most in a game in school history. He amassed 383 passing yards on 25-42 passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions, while rushing for 88 yards on the ground. His 383 yards through the air was the most by a Blue Raider QB in his first career start (breaking previous mark of 379 yards by Chase Cunningham in 2021) and the most ever by a freshman at MTSU.
Offensive Lineman of the Week – Marshall Jackson, WKU – R-Sr. – LT – Brandenburg, Ky.
Jackson played a big role in helping his team rack up 642 yards in the 42-26 Senior Day win over Middle Tennessee – the seventh straight in the 100 Miles of Hate rivalry. He posted the highest pass blocking grade (77.0) among WKU’s offensive linemen with no sacks allowed over 79 snaps at left tackle. The Hilltoppers (8-2, 6-1 CUSA) tallied 371 yards and three touchdowns through the air. The fifth-year senior also had the highest run blocking grade among WKU’s starting offensive linemen. The Hilltoppers posted 271 yards on the ground – the team’s first time rushing for over 200 yards in a game since Oct. 10, 2024.
