CUSA Hitter of the Week – Grant Jay, DBU – Jr. – Catcher – Semmes, Ala.
Jay was on fire at the dish last week as he takes home his first Hitter of the Week honors. The junior backstop hit an even .500 (7-14) with three home runs, two doubles, six runs and 11 RBI in a 3-1 week for DBU (6-1). In Saturday’s doubleheader against SIUE, he crushed two long balls in game two, going 3-4 with five RBI. He capped off the Patriots’ series sweep with a majestic grand slam in Sunday’s 10-2 win, moving him into third all-time on DBU’s home run leaderboard.
CUSA Pitcher of the Week – Trace Phillips, MTSU – So. – RHP – Spring Hill, Tenn.
Phillips continued his dominant start to 2025 for the Blue Raiders (4-3) by hurling 6.0 shutout frames, allowing just five hits, one walk and tying his career-high in strikeouts with nine. The right-hander from Spring Hill, Tenn., improved to 2-0 on the season, and in his 12.0 innings, he boasts a remarkable 17-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Phillips is one of two CUSA pitchers that has not allowed a run with at least 10.0 innings pitched this season.
