BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – No. 1 Liberty breezed by No. 4 LA Tech on its way to the semifinals of the CUSA Softball Championship with an 8-0, run-rule victory on Thursday afternoon at the WKU Softball Complex.
The Lady Flames (45-11) broke out the big bats early in their CUSA Softball Championship debut, plating five runs in the opening frame.
Savannah Woodard led off the game with a solo home run,
KK Madrey roped a two-run triple and
Savannah Jessee capped the outburst with an RBI double.
Liberty extended its lead with homers from
JaMaya Byrum and
Brooke Roberts in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. A bases loaded walk issued to CUSA Player of the Year
Rachel Roupe served as the walk-off run and initiated the run rule.
In addition to offensive dominance, the Lady Flames received a masterful start from CUSA Pitcher of the Year
Elena Escobar (20-3), who went the distance and scattered three hits with five strikeouts and no walks to pick up her 20
th win of the season.
Liberty will take on No. 3 Jax State in the first semifinal at Noon CT on Friday, while the Bulldogs (31-24) will face No. 2 WKU at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
