SB: March 30 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Jax State’s Aria Davis, Sam Houston’s Kendall Daniel and Missouri State’s Emily Koranda earned Conference USA Softball weekly honors.
 
Davis garners Player of the Week honors, while Daniel is the Pitcher of the Week, and Koranda is the Freshman of the Week.
 
Player of the Week – Aria Davis, Jax State – Sophomore – Shortstop – Dacula, Ga.
Davis hit a pair of homers and drove in a team-high four runs for the Gamecocks (26-10, 11-1 CUSA) during a three-game sweep of FIU over the weekend. Over the weekend, she batted .400 (4-10), posted a 1.000 slugging percentage on four hits and drew a walk for a .455 on base percentage. Davis recorded a hit and an RBI in each of the three victories over the Panthers. The sophomore homered on Friday to give the Gamecocks a 2-0 lead in the second. She also got the scoring started for the Gamecocks in Saturday’s first game with a solo homer to left, then closed the series with a 2-4 effort with a seventh-inning RBI single to left. 
 
Pitcher of the Week – Kendall Daniel, Sam Houston – RS Junior – Kingwood, Texas
Daniel (7-3) earned a win and a save for the Bearkats (24-15, 9-3 CUSA) in a sweep of MTSU over the weekend. She logged a 0.66 ERA across 10.2 innings with 12 strikeouts, four hits allowed and only one walk, limiting the Blue Raiders to a .114 batting average while in the circle. Daniel surrendered just one hit with a pair of strikeouts in 2.2 innings of scoreless work to shut the door on a 6-3 victory on Saturday. She earned the nod in Sunday’s series finale and went the distance in an extra-inning affair, striking out a career-high 10 batters in eight innings on just 95 pitches to secure a 2-1 triumph. Daniel allowed just one earned run on three hits and a walk. At one point, she retired 14-straight batters from the first to the sixth innings. Daniel faced the minimum in the final two frames and struck out a pair of batters in each inning.
 
Freshman of the Week – Emily Koranda, Missouri State – Pitcher – Marion, Iowa
Koranda (8-8) continued her impressive rookie campaign by going 1-1 with a 0.62 ERA in two starts for the Bears (15-17, 4-8 CUSA). She logged 11.1 innings and allowed just one earned run with six strikeouts and a .186 opponent batting average. On Saturday, she tossed six innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts in a narrow 2-0 loss. Koranda went back out to the circle on Sunday and threw 5.1 innings of a combined shutout as Missouri State earned a win in the series finale. She scattered four hits in 5.1 innings and struck out three more Bulldog batters.
