FB: Six Former CUSA Standouts Advance to NFL Conference Championships

DALLAS – Conference USA continues to be well represented on the NFL’s postseason stage, with six former CUSA stars active on rosters advancing to next weekend’s Conference Championship Games.
 
In the AFC Championship Game, top-seeded Denver plays host to New England at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday. In the Broncos’ 33-30 overtime win over Buffalo, Denver’s Devon Key (WKU) chipped in four solo tackles and recovered a key fumble that set up a field goal right before halftime, which put the Broncos ahead 20-10 at the break.
 
The Patriots outlasted Houston, 28-16, in the Divisional Round. New England’s Milton Williams (LA Tech) contributed two tackles as he moved one step closer to his third career Super Bowl appearance. Houston’s Azeez Al-Shaair (Florida Atlantic) logged a team-high nine tackles, including four solo stops, and recovered two fumbles.
 
The NFC Championship Game pits a pair of NFC West foes as No. 1 seed Seattle welcomes the Los Angeles Rams at 5:30 p.m. CT on Sunday. In a dominant 41-6 win over San Francisco, the Seahawks saw a pair of key defensive outings from Tyrice Knight (UTEP), who finished with five solo stops, and Riq Woolen (UTSA), who broke up a pair of passes.
 
The Divisional Round finale saw another overtime thriller as the Rams edged Chicago, 20-17. Darious Williams (UAB) finished with four tackles, including three solo stops. Tyler Higbee hauled in one pass for 27 yards on a scoring drive that ended with a game-tying field goal just before halftime. Despite the loss, Kevin Byard (MTSU) tallied five tackles, including four solo stops and two tackles for loss.
