ITF: February 10 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – UTEP earns four indoor track Athlete of the Week honors, recognizing Juan Leal (Men’s Track Athlete of the Week), Timothy Grice (Men’s Freshman of the Week), Cydni Martin (Women’s Track Athlete of the Week) and Praise Djoma (Women’s Field Athlete of the Week). Rounding out the awards are Sam Houston’s Jeremiah Jackson (Men’s Field Athlete of the Week) and Missouri State’s Shiloh Cross (Women’s Freshman of the Week).
 
Men's Track Athlete of the Week – Juan Leal, UTEP – So. – El Paso, Texas
Leal finished second overall in the men’s mile with a career-best time of 4:12.91 at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. The sophomore now ranks second in the mile in CUSA.
 
Men's Field Athlete of the Week – Jeremiah Jackson, Sam Houston – Jr. – Houston, Texas
Jackson placed ninth in the high jump at Texas A&M's Charlie Thomas Invitational. His height of 2.05 meters (6-8.75) is the third-best mark in CUSA this indoor season.
 
Men's Freshman of the Week – Timothy Grice, UTEP – Fr. – Cameron, Texas
Grice clocked in with a personal-best time of 21.36 in the 200-meter dash, tying for 24th overall out of 62 competitors at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. He also competed with the men's 4x400-meter relay team that clocked in a season-best time of 3:14.75, beating last year’s best of 3:15.90. In conference rankings, Grice is tied for seventh fastest in the 200 and UTEP ranks fifth in the 4x4.
 
Women's Track Athlete of the Week – Cydni Martin, UTEP – Fr. – Dallas, Texas
Martin clocked in a personal-best time of 24.09 and finished 22nd out of 65 runners in the 200-meter dash at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. She is tied for third in the 200 in the CUSA rankings. She also clocked in a PR time of 8.61 in the 60-meter hurdles making her seventh in CUSA.
 
Women's Field Athlete of the Week – Praise Djoma, UTEP – Jr. – Warri, Nigeria
Djoma leaped 12.28 meters (40-3.5) in the women's triple jump at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, good for tenth place out of 30 jumpers. That mark ranks her second in the conference. 
 
Women's Freshman of the Week – Shiloh Cross, Missouri State – Fr. – Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Shiloh entered the Missouri State record book with a triple jump mark of 12.15 meters during the Woo Pig Classic to earn fifth overall in the event. She now ranks fourth in CUSA.
