WTEN: Delaware and Liberty Set to Compete for Championship Title

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – No. 4 Delaware and No. 6 Liberty are set to face off in the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship after both recording two huge wins in Friday’s semifinals.

Delaware opened the morning with a 4-2 victory over top-seed Louisiana Tech, completing the largest upset of a No. 1 seed in the CUSA tournament since 2010 when No. 4 Marshall defeated No. 1 SMU in the semifinals. This will be the first time that the top-seeded team has not made the championship final since that season.

In another huge upset, the Flames were able to take down defending champion and No. 2 FIU in the afternoon match. It was a close battle, coming down to a tiebreaker in the final match, but Liberty was able to claim the 4-3 victory for a chance at the title. With the elimination of the second-seed as well, tomorrow's championship will be the first time since 1998 that the 1 or 2 seed isn’t in the final.

The championship match is set to begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
