DALLAS – MTSU’s
Ondrej Horak was named the 2026 Conference USA Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and Outstanding Singles Player of the Championship, announced by the league office on Tuesday. This marks Horak’s first Player of the Year honor and the seventh straight season for a Blue Raider. Horak compiled an 18-6 singles record, including 18-5 at No. 1, with two ranked wins. In postseason play, Horak defeated Delaware’s Tobey Lock, 6-3, 6-2, and clinched the CUSA Championship with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Liberty’s Siwanat Auytayakul at No. 1. The title marked his fourth career CUSA championship and, in total, 169 career wins.
MTSU head coach
Jimmy Borendame earned Coach of the Year for the seventh time in his 16 years at the helm in Murfreesboro. Borendame has led the Blue Raiders to a 22-8 record and a seventh consecutive CUSA title. The Blue Raiders head man guided his 48
th-ranked squad to another NCAA Tournament appearance. The doubles duo of Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak is ranked No. 18 in the nation, the highest ITA doubles ranking the program has seen since Borendame took over. MTSU earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships and will face NC State in the first round in Athens, Ga.
Antoine Mayoral of MTSU was named Freshman of the Year, while holding a 9-3 singles record and a 15-12 mark in doubles. He has earned one Player of the Week honor and three Doubles Team of the Week awards. He enters the NCAA Tournament on a five-match singles winning streak and is undefeated in doubles alongside Ondrej Horak, with seven straight wins as a pair. Mayoral also recorded a ranked doubles win with Houston Jacques, defeating No. 60 Sebastian Sec and Aleksandar Mitric, 6-3.
MTSU’s
Birtan Duran claimed Newcomer of the Year honors after posting a 14-6 singles record, including 6-4 at No. 3 and 3-0 at No. 2. He earned Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors twice this season. In the CUSA Championship, he defeated Liberty’s Rodrigo Santiago Arraez, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1, to give MTSU a 2-1 lead.
Horak and Mayoral of MTSU earned Outstanding Doubles Team of the Championship. The duo went 2-0 at the CUSA Championship on court No. 2 as they helped secure the doubles point in the semifinals. The pair defeated Liberty’s Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and Guy Vorwerk 6-4 in the title match. In the semifinals against Delaware, Horak and Mayoral beat Federico Garbero and Itamar Tapiro, 7-6 (8-6).
