WSOC: Conference Play Heads Into October

DALLAS - (RV) Liberty, Kennesaw State, MTSU, Delaware and NM State each notched victories on opening weekend of league play. All 10 squads are back in action on Thursday and Sunday this week as the season enters October. 

FLAMES STAY HOT
The Lady Flames extended their winning streak to six games with a massive conference-opening victory over the previously unbeaten Hilltoppers. Liberty’s win streak currently ranks as the third-longest streak (tied) among Division I programs this season. Libery outshot WKU 19-8 (7-4 shots on goal), including 14 shots in the second half. The Flames scored on an own goal, while Ansley Leja recorded her fourth shutout of 2026. Liberty received four votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.


OROZCO ON A ROLL
Kennesaw State begins CUSA play with a gritty road win over Sam Houston highlighted by senior Anabel Orozco who took home Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Orozco tallied two goals including one in the first three minutes of play. She became the first Owl since 2012 to record a goal contribution in five-straight contests.


BLUE HENS BLANK BEARS
The Blue Hens march to victory as they blank Missouri State to open conference action. Maggie Groh recorded her fifth goal (ties career-high) of the season and proved to be the game-winner in the 1-0 triumph on Sunday. Her goal came in the 58th minute. Sophia Hall collected two saves and earned her fourth shutout of the season.


MTSU STARTS STRONG
MTSU began the conference season strong with a dominant road victory over Jax State, 2-0. Hannah Murphy and Saachi Bureau recorded the two goals for the Blue Raiders, both coming within three minutes of each other in the second half. Ania Denham’s assist marks her fifth-straight game with a goal contribution, the first Blue Raider since 2021. Ella Sellers extended her perfect record in goal to 447 minutes.


AGGIES BREAK THROUGH
After a tough start to the 2026 campaign, the Aggies grab an impressive home win over FIU to begin league play. Milly Eyrich netted the lone goal for NM State in the 67th minute to secure the win. Karolanne Lafortune earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors after five saves and a shutout.
