M-Swim: Kershaw named USA Swimming Team Manager

July 30, 2010

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (SMU) - SMU assistant swim coach Andy Kershaw has been named Team Manager for the US Men's Pan Pacific Games, USA Swimming has announced. This is his second opportunity to represent his country in the past nine months. In December, he was the Team Manager for the Duel in the Pool competition in Manchester, England.

Any time you get to wear your country's flag it is a great honor," Kershaw said. "USA Swimming has a lot of great people in its organization, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to represent them. This type of team represents the level of swimmer that we expect to have on our team at SMU, and it will be a blast to help them swim some of the fastest times of the year, and hopefully set World Records."

Kershaw is heading into his eighth year with the Mustangs. In his first seven years on the Hilltop, Kershaw has helped lead 36 swimmers to All-American status and helped the team win seven conference championships. Prior to his time on the Hilltop, he was an assistant coach for his alma matter, Ohio University, from 1999-2003.

The Pan Pacific Games pits the US against the top swimmers from Australia, Japan and Canada. Among the swimmers expected to compete for the US are Olympic Gold Medalists Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. The games are Aug. 18-21 in Irvine, Calif.
