IRVING, Texas - FIU senior
Camila Serrano has been tabbed the 2017 Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Year and teammate
Katerina Krasova earns the Most Improved Golfer award, as selected by the league coaches. Marshall's
Shelby Brauckmuller was named C-USA Freshman of the Year, and Old Dominion's
Mallory Hetzel is the C-USA Coach of the Year in her first at the helm.
Serrano earns the league's highest honor as the Panthers claim the title for third-straight season (Meghan MacLaren 2015-16). The standout senior recorded seven top-10 finishes on the year, including a trio of second places finishes. In addition to being C-USA Golfer of the Year, Serrano is a four-time All-Conference USA honoree and was named the 2014 C-USA Freshman of the Year. The Bogota, Colombia, native led the Panthers with a 72.57 season stroke average through 28 rounds and had nine of the team's 10 best rounds this season. She was tabbed C-USA Golfer of the Week a league-best four times.
Krasova was named Most Improved after dropping her season stroke average to 75.36 after carding a 79.04 a year ago. The junior closed out the 2016-17 campaign with two top-10 finishes, while a 27
th-place finish was her best last season.
Brauckmuller earns Freshman of the Year honors following a stellar rookie campaign that saw her record the best stroke average (75.44), have the lowest round (68) and the lowest 54 holes (217) among her teammates. The Auburndale, Florida, native finished first among her teammates three times in nine of the Herd's tournaments with two of them occurring in the spring.
Hetzel wins C-USA Coach of the Year honors after leading her Monarchs to the program's first conference title in school history. She also becomes the first to earn C-USA Coach of the Year as a rookie at the helm since Tulane's Lorne Don claimed the title in 2014. Hetzel guided a pair of student-athletes to the all-conference squad in first-teamer
Katerina Vlasinova and second-teamer
Maggie Simmermacher. With the conference title, Old Dominion earned the league's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Women's Golf Championships.
Vlasinova is a First-Team All-C-USA selection after taking third-team honors a year ago. Miller fired a 2-under 74 over the final 18 holes of the 2017 C-USA Championship to help secure a tie for fourth place (76-69-74) individually. For her efforts, Vlasinova was one of the six women honored on the C-USA All-Tournament Team. The veteran boasts a 74.9 season stroke average and a low-shooting round of 69.
Southern Miss boasts a pair of first-team selections in junior
Nichada Satasuk and sophomore
Henriette Syr. Satasuk and Syr collect their first all-conference honors, after playing to a 73.86 and 74.53 season stroke average, respectively. The dynamic duo were the only Golden Eagles to record an eagle on the season and also lead the team in birdies. The twosome also led the squad in par-5 scoring and lowest round average.
Rounding out the first team is junior
Georgina Blackman of WKU. A two-time C-USA Third-Team member, Blackman led WKU's card in six of her 11 tournaments played this season. She registered three top-five and six top-10 performances on the season, including a seventh-place tie at the C-USA Championship. The Essex, England, native was also tabbed C-USA Golfer of the Week on March 22.
