Saturday, November 2
2:30 p.m. CT
Houston, Texas (Rice Stadium)
Broadcast: Stadium on Facebook
Announcers: Chris Hassel (PxP), A.J. Hawk (AN), Kristen Balboni (SL)
All-Time Series: Marshall leads 4-2
Last Meeting: at Marshall 41, Rice 14 (Nov. 15, 2016)
FAST FACTS
**Marshall returns to Rice Stadium for the first time since it faced the Owls in the 2013 C-USA Championship Game.
**Senior K
Justin Rohrwasser earned C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week recognition following his huge day for the Thundering Herd when he booted four field goals, including a game-winning, career-long 53-yarder as time expired to lift Marshall to a 26-23 win over WKU. During the game, he connected on a (then-) career-long 46 yarder in the second quarter, followed by kicks from 31 and 43 yards prior to the game-winner. He also made two extra points for a 14-point day. His 53-yard field goal is tied for the fourth-longest made kick in school history, and tied for the third-longest made kick in Joan C. Edwards Stadium history. The 53-yarder is the longest in 217 games at Marshall, since Curtis Head made a kick of the same distance against Buffalo in 2002. Rohrwasser tied a school record with those four field goals, equaling the four made by four others, most recently Justin Haig (MVP vs. Louisiana Tech in the 2014 C-USA Championship Game). He is a perfect 11-for-11 on field goals this season, and has made 12 consecutive field goals dating back to last season.
**Senior CB
Kereon Merrell earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors following the WKU win. He had a huge hand in staking the Thundering Herd to a two-touchdown, first-quarter lead in the Marshall’s 26-23 victory over WKU. The senior picked off a pass near midfield (his first career interception) and the Thundering Herd cashed that in for a touchdown on the ensuing drive. On the very next drive, Merrell fell on a loose ball in the WKU backfield near midfield (his second career fumble recovery) and Marshall scored three plays later to take a 14-0 lead just over eight minutes into Saturday’s action. Eight of his 10 tackles were solos and he helped Marshall limit WKU to just a 5-for-13 clip on third down. This season, Merrell is Marshall’s fifth-leading tackler with 42 tops.
**Marshall senior DE
Marquis Couch set a single-game career-high with three sacks vs. WKU. The Thundering Herd has 19 sacks over the last three games, the most in a three-game stretch for MU since 1999. The Herd has a league-high 29 sacks on the season, which ranks No. 8 nationally.
**Herd senior LB
Omari Cobb has registered double-digit tackles in four of the last five games, including a career-high 13 stops last Saturday vs. WKU.

Austin Trammell led the way offensively with five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown, his second TD of the year and the fifth of his career. Trammell ranks fifth in C-USA in all-purpose yardage, averaging 110.0 per game.
**Rice junior LB
Blaze Alldredge recorded seven tackles last week, including 1.5 for loss. He now has 14.0 tackles for loss this year, second in C-USA and fifth nationally. Alldredge’s 14.0 TFL’s this year move him past Larry Izzo (1994) for the third-most by a linebacker since 1981.
**Redshirt senior P
Chris Barnes ranks third in C-USA with a 45.0 yards punting average. Seven of his 22 punts have gone for 50 yards or longer.
**The Rice defense continues to show improvement in 2019. After finishing 13th in the league in total defense in 2018, the unit currently ranks eighth, allowing 51 less yards per game. The Owls finished last in scoring defense last season, allowing 36.0 points per game and have lowered that average to 29.1 this year (eighth in the conference).
