Top-seeded No. 19 WKU (28-1, 14-0 C-USA) clinched a share of the regular-season title on Thursday before securing the crown outright with a Senior Day sweep on Sunday. The regular-season championship marks the Lady Toppers’ fifth since joining C-USA in 2014. WKU became just the fifth team in league history to hang a perfect 14-0 mark in C-USA play, the last undefeated season coming in 2016 when the Toppers rattled off 14-straight on their way to the C-USA Championship, also hosted by Rice. WKU will face No. 8 Middle Tennessee, who’s appearing in the C-USA tournament for the first time since 2013, in Friday's first quarterfinal at 12 p.m. CT.
The tournament host No. 21 Rice (24-2, 13-1) earned the second seed with its 19
th sweep of the season on Sunday. The Owls’ 13 C-USA wins are the most in school history and their 11-straight wins on the road mark the country’s third-longest active streak. The Owls will be pitted against seventh-seeded UTEP (13-14, 6-8) in the third quarterfinal at 5 p.m. Friday, marking a rematch of Sunday's regular-season finale between the two. The Miners more than doubled their overall and conference win totals from last season and will see C-USA tournament action for the first time since 2012.
North Texas (16-10, 10-4) is slotted third for its seventh-straight championship appearance since joining the league in 2013. The Mean Green will open tournament action against No. 6 UTSA in the 7 p.m. quarterfinal (15-12, 8-6) as the Roadrunners look to avenge an early first-round exit after being swept as the third seed in 2018. No. 4 Marshall (18-9, 9-5) will make the trip to Houston after falling short of a championship bid in 2018. The Thundering Herd takes on No. 5 Florida Atlantic (15-10, 9-5) at 2 p.m. Friday. With a pair of wins on the weekend, the Owls will carry their sixth winning season in a row, the longest such streak in program history.
