Young piled up eight C-USA Freshman of the Week awards last season and earned his first player nod on Monday. In Charlotte’s (3-3) wins over Davidson and North Carolina A&T last week, Young averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists with a 60.9-percent shooting clip from the floor and 15-of-19 hits from the free throw line. He posted a team-best 18 points with seven rebounds at rival Davidson, and still had the hot hand against North Carolina A&T. He inked a new career-high 27 points on 9-of-11 field goal shooting, sprinkling in five boards, three assists and a pair of steals.

WKU’s (6-2) lone game last week was a statement win as the Hilltoppers edged Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 73-71. Bassey was the difference-maker, notching his fifth double-double of the year with game highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds. The 6-11 center was responsible for five of WKU’s 13 offensive boards, including the game-winning putback. Bassey also manufactured 78.6 percent of his 14 shots from field goal range, adding in five points from the free throw line. The Nigeria native added one assist, one block and one steal in his 33 minutes of action.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
KENNETH LOFTON, JR., LOUISIANA TECH
FRESHMAN, F, 6-7, 275, PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS
Lofton, Jr. was a consistent force down low in Louisiana Tech’s (6-2) two big wins against Jackson State and Lamar this past week. The freshman averaged 9.5 points while shooting 60 percent from the floor. He recorded eight points with three rebounds in the first outing, before compiling another 11 points and seven rebounds with four assists against Lamar. On the defensive end, he averaged 5.0 rebounds and led the Bulldogs in steals in both games, marking a career-high three apiece in each contest.
