MBB: Dec. 7 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Marshall junior guard Taevion Kinsey unloaded for a career-high 31 points in the Thundering Herd's 16-point win at Wright State to claim his first C-USA Player of the Week award. Freshman of the Week was given to Louisiana Tech forward Kenneth Lofton, Jr., who became the first Bulldog since Paul Millsap in 2004 to fire off back-to-back double-doubles. C-USA weekly awards are voted on by the league's men's basketball communications directors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
TAEVION KINSEY, MARSHALL
JUNIOR, G, 6-5, 185, COLUMBUS, OHIO

Marshall (2-0) picked up an 80-64 victory at Wright State in its first road trip of the season last Thursday behind Kinsey's career-high 31 points. The 30-point showing was the first of his career and extended a streak of 10+ point performances in 14 contests dating back to last season. The junior sunk 9-of-14 attempts from the floor and made a career-best 13 free throws in 15 tries. He also pitched in seven rebounds on the defensive end in his 39 minutes. Kinsey's play was vital in the Thundering Herd's 13-point comeback, the largest since overcoming a 15-point deficit in 2019, as 16 of his 31 points came in the second half. The Player of the Week honor is the first of his career.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
KENNETH LOFTON, JR., LOUISIANA TECH

FRESHMAN, F, 6-7, 275, PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS
Lofton registered consecutive double-doubles in Week 2 and played a big role in helping Louisiana Tech (3-1) to its 400th win in Thomas Assembly Center last Thursday. In the 78-62 win over ULM, the newcomer tallied 10 points and a career-best 10 rebounds for his first double-double on a collegiate floor. Lofton, Jr., then turned it up a notch while facing a tough test against (RV) LSU in Baton Rouge. The Texas product had already collected 13 points and a new career-high 12 rebounds by halftime, becoming the first Bulldog since Millsap in '05 to reach at least 12 points and 12 boards in a single half. Lofton, Jr., saw just eight minutes in the second period but was able to reach another career mark with 17 points. On the week, he averaged 13.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in 23.0 minutes with a 68.8-percent showing from the field (11-16).
