MBB: Feb. 1 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Sophomore Jahmir Young was voted Conference USA Player of the Week on Monday for the third time this season as the guard notched his career’s first double-double in Charlotte’s sweep of FIU. Now a five-time winner this year, Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth Lofton, Jr., was named C-USA Freshman of the Week after back-to-back, double-figure performances lifted the Bulldogs to a sweep of Southern Miss. Awards are voted on by the league's men's basketball communications directors. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.

SOPHOMORE, G, 6-2, 185, HYATTSVILLE, MD
Charlotte (9-7, 5-3 C-USA East) hosted FIU (8-10, 2-8 C-USA East) over the weekend and Young opened the series with his career’s first double-double to help lock in the 49ers’ first of two wins. Friday’s 63-55 overtime victory saw the sophomore reach 10 rebounds and 25 points, including the game-tying 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation, and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. His double-digit rebounds lifted Charlotte to earn its highest single-game total (46) as a team since 2017. Young added 22 points, six rebounds and four assists on Saturday as the Niners edged the Panthers, 68-65. The guard went 8-for-11 from the floor and hit a career-best 4-of-7 3-point shots. Overall, Young averaged 23.5 points, eight rebounds and two assists in the series.
