MBB: March 1 Players of the Week

DALLAS – UTSA's second weekly award winner in three weeks, senior Keaton Wallace earned Conference USA Player of the Week following a historic weekend in which he eclipsed his career's 2,000-point mark. Louisiana Tech's Kenneth Lofton, Jr., was voted Freshman of the Week for the eighth time. Awards are voted on by the league's men's basketball communications directors. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KEATON WALLACE, UTSA
SENIOR, G, 6-3, 195, DALLAS, TX
Wallace celebrated multiple career milestones over the weekend as UTSA (13-10, 9-7 C-USA West) claimed its eighth win in the last 10 games with a split series at home versus UAB (19-6, 11-5 C-USA West). The senior guard averaged 21.5 points, 10 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. On Friday, he went for 21 points and 13 rebounds over 34 minutes, and returned to contribute 22 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals on Saturday. In the finale, Wallace eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for his career, and now ranks seventh in C-USA history and second in UTSA history in points scored. His 337 career 3-pointers made are also now fifth-best in league history and his 122 games played now stand third all-time in UTSA's record books.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Lofton, Jr. & Co. continued their winning ways with a sweep of Rice (12-12, 6-10 C-USA West) in their final conference series. Louisiana Tech (19-6, 12-4 C-USA West) has now won eight of its last nine games and are in a tie for first in the West Division as their star newcomer avered 16.5 points and eight rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the floor. On Friday night, he notched his seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 10 boards. He turned around on Saturday and had a team-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds. The forward also totaled four steals, the most of any Bulldog in the series.
