Five C-USA WRs on Biletnikoff Award Watch List

TALLAHASSEE, Florida - Five Conference USA wide receivers were named to the 2022 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation announced Thursday - Charlotte's Grant DuBose, FIU's Tyrese Chambers, North Texas' Roderic Burns, UTSA's Zakhari Franklin and WKU's Daewood Davis.

The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.

DuBose burst onto the scene in 2021 as an impact transfer from Miles College. He led the 49ers with 62 catches for 892 yards and shared the team-lead with six touchdown catches. Memorably, he had two touchdown catches in his debut as the 49ers defeated Duke, 31-28, for the program's first win over a power conference opponent. He turned his first target as a 49er into a 56-yard touchdown reception against the Blue Devils and finished the game with a season-high 118 receiving yards. He also had a pair of touchdowns catches in the 49ers C-USA victory over Middle Tennessee. He averaged 14.4 yards per reception and 74.3 yards per game.

Chambers established himself as one of the top deep threats in college football during a record-breaking campaign last season. He ranked second nationally with an average of 23.9 yards per reception in 2021, while posting the top single season receiving-yard performance in FIU annals (1,074 yards). The Baltimore, Md., native also recorded the most touchdown catches in a season by a FIU player – with nine. Chambers' 91-yard touchdown catch at Southern Mississippi on Nov. 27 marked FIU's longest play from scrimmage in program history. He recorded a total of 10 catches of at least 40 yards in 2021.

Burns went from walk-on to scholarship player last year after injuries derailed the Mean Green's wide receiver corps early last year, and he picked up the slack with 58 catches for 802 yards and four touchdowns - all team-highs. He also served as the team's primary punt returner.

Franklin is coming off a record-setting season in 2021 in which he helped lead the Roadrunners to a 12-2 record, the C-USA title, the program's first top-25 ranking and to their second straight and third overall bowl game. The Cedar Hill High School product smashed UTSA single-season standards for receptions (81), receiving yards (1,027), receiving yards per game (79.0) and receiving touchdowns (12) en route to first-team all-conference and second-team Dave Campbell's Texas Football All-Texas College honors.

Davis enters 2022 off a big campaign a season ago in which he hauled in 43 receptions for 763 yards and eight touchdowns. Davis found the end zone twice in wins over Middle Tennessee and Marshall. He also finished with a season-high 105 yards receiving in the team's Conference USA East Division Championship clinching victory at the Thundering Herd. His efforts helped WKU finish second in the country in total offense.
