MBB: UAB’s Walker Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List

INDIANAPOLIS – UAB’s Jordan “Jelly” Walker was named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, the USBWA announced Thursday. Chosen by the USBWA board, the list consists of 50 student-athletes from 18 conferences.
 
The reigning Conference USA Player of the Year is the second-leading scorer in Division I, averaging 23.8 points per game. Walker also ranks third nationally in three-pointers made per game (4.38) and owns the 12th-best free-throw percentage (86.6) among players with at least 80 attempts.
 
The Long Island, N.Y., native ranks second in the conference in minutes per game (33:22), third in three-point percentage (40.0) and fifth in assists per game (4.6).
 
Walker has posted four 30-point performances, including a season-high 38 in the season opener against Alabama State, 31 in the Sunshine Slam title game victory over Georgia and 31 against UTSA on New Year’s Eve to become the fastest Blazer to reach 1,000 points (47 games).
 
UAB (13-6, 4-4 C-USA) returns home after playing four of its last five on the road to host second-place North Texas (15-4, 6-2 C-USA) at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday.
