LOS ANGELES – UAB’s Jordan “Jelly” Walker was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Wednesday.
Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2022-23 season thus far, the list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor.
The reigning Conference USA Player of the Year currently stands as the top scorer in Division I, averaging 25.2 points per game. Walker ranks second in three-pointers made per game (4.5) and owns the second-best free-throw percentage (91.3) among players with at least 60 attempts.
The Long Island, N.Y., native ranks third in the conference in assists per game (4.7) and fourth in three-point percentage (40.3).
Walker has posted four 30-point performances, including a season-high 38 in the season opener against Alabama State, 31 in the Sunshine Slam title game victory over Georgia and 31 against UTSA on New Year’s Eve to become the fastest Blazer to reach 1,000 points (47 games).
Led by Walker, UAB (12-2, 3-0 C-USA) prepares for a crucial C-USA road tilt against fellow conference unbeaten Florida Atlantic (12-1, 2-0 C-USA) at 6 p.m. CT Thursday. Both squads are receiving votes in the USA Today Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.
