DALLAS – Conference USA announced Wednesday its weekly honors for golf. UTEP’s Daniela Chipchase tied for 10th, earning her first career top-10 finish at the Tulane Classic in a deep field to garner her first C-USA Women’s Golfer of the Week honor of the year, while Rice’s Raghav Chugh finished in a third place tie at the Border Olympics to earn his second C-USA Men’s Golfer of the Week recognition this year, after also doing so during the fall campaign. The 2022-23 C-USA Athletes of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
C-USA Women’s Golfer of the Week – Daniela Chipchase, UTEP, RS Junior, Bogotá, Colombia
Chipchase picked up the first top-10 finish of her collegiate career at the Tulane Classic Presented by Chad Brownstein, tying for 10th in a field featuring three top-100 players and five top-100 teams. She capped the tournament with a 12-over par 228 at the challenging English Turn Golf & Country Club, highlighted by a 72 in the final round on Tuesday in which she was one of only three players to fire even-par or better rounds. As a team, UTEP finished fourth, marking the fifth top-five result for the Miners in six competitions this season. Chipchase was effective in limiting the impact of the difficult par 4 holes, tying for fifth across the whole field with a 7-over par tally on such holes.
C-USA Men’s Golfer of the Week – Raghav Chugh, Rice, Sophomore, New Dehli, India
Chugh began his spring season by picking up his second top-three finish of the year, finishing two-under par to tie for third place at the Border Olympics. He began the tournament by firing a 69, his fifth round in the 60’s and the 11th of his career. After a second round 74, he closed the tournament by carding a 71, his team-leading eighth of the year. It was his second tournament under par, defeating three golfers in Golfstat’s Top 100.
