HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – No. 5 UTEP closed the game on a 24-3 run to eliminate No. 4 Liberty, 66-57, in Thursday’s quarterfinal. The Miners advanced to their first CUSA Championship semifinal since 2017, the last season the event was held in the state of Alabama.
 
Zid Powell posted a team-high 13 points, including a 7-9 mark from the free-throw line, to go with seven boards, four assists and a pair of steals. CUSA Freshman of the Year David Terrell Jr. recorded eight of his 12 points in the team’s hot stretch over the final 11 minutes.
 
UTEP (17-15) will face top-seeded Sam Houston in Friday’s first semifinal at 11:30 a.m. on CBS Sports Network.
