RUSTON – No. 2 DBU defeated No. 6 FIU 8-2 to move into the semifinals in the 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship on Thursday night from J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park on the campus of Louisiana Tech University.
 
The Patriots got the scoring going early behind a majestic blast from Luke Heefner in the bottom of the second inning. DBU catcher Grant Jay also went deep with a 428-foot homer off the batter’s eye to extend the lead in the sixth. CUSA Newcomer of the Year Michael Dattalo paced the offense with a three-hit night.
 
DBU starter Jerrod Jenkins improved to 6-0 on the season after tossing 6.0 shutout innings and striking out eight Panthers.
 
The Patriots will have Friday off as they secured the first spot in the semifinals and await the winner of No. 3 WKU and No. 6 FIU.
