WSOC: October 7 Players of the Week

DALLAS – WKU’s Makenna Egan, Abby Wiedermann and Maddie Davis earned Conference USA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors.

Offensive Player of the Week – Makenna Egan, WKU – Freshman – Palm Harbor, Fla.
Egan garners Offensive Player of the Week honors after guiding the Hilltoppers (6-4-2, 3-0-1 CUSA) to two wins over LA Tech and Sam Houston. In Thursday night’s triumph over the Bulldogs, the freshman forward scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute to secure the gritty 1-0 win on the road. In the final seconds of the match on Sunday, Egan assisted teammate Mackenzie Howard for the game-winning goal to defeat the Bearkats 1-0. The Palm Harbor, Fla., native now leads her squad in assists (3) and is second on the team in total goals (4). Her five points since league play began are the second most in CUSA.

Defensive Player of the Week – Abby Wiedermann, WKU – Sophomore – St. Louis, Mo.
Wiedermann claims her second Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of shutout road wins over the weekend. The sophomore defender contributed to four crucial blocked shots with two of those coming in the final minutes of the 1-0 win over Sam Houston. With the two wins, WKU sits alone atop the CUSA standings with 10 points through its first four contests.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Maddie Davis, WKU – Senior – Waterloo, Ill.
Davis completed the weekly award sweep for the Hilltoppers as she recorded back-to-back shutouts in a pair of 1-0 victories over LA Tech and Sam Houston. Davis totaled eight saves across the two matches, including six against the Bearkats. The senior from Waterloo, Ill., was the only CUSA goalkeeper to not allow a goal over the weekend. Davis now has three shutouts on the season and ranks second in the league in both save percentage (.846) and goals-against per game (.706).
