WBB: Liberty Claims its First CUSA Championship Title, Smuda Earns MVP

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lady Flames earn their first Conference USA Women’s Basketball Championship Title with a 53-48 win over MTSU on Saturday night at Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center. Redshirt senior center Bella Smuda won Tournament MVP after averaging 12.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in three games.
 
Liberty outlasted the nation’s leading defense, shooting 34.6 percent from beyond the arc. Asia Boone and Emma Hess knocked down three triples apiece. Hess led the team with 14 points and chipped in six rebounds. Smuda recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Boone posted 11 points.  
 
Liberty will await their NCAA Tournament draw, which will be decided on Selection Sunday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.
