Makenna Moore earned Conference USA Softball weekly honors.
Jessee garners Player of the Week honors, while Floyd is the Pitcher of the Week, and Moore is the Freshman of the Week.
Player of the Week – Savannah Jessee, Liberty – R-Jr. – C – Jonesborough, Tenn.
Jessee had a standout weekend at the Liberty Softball Classic, helping the Lady Flames (5-9) go 3-1 with a pair of Power Four victories. In four games, she batted .600 (9-15) with three doubles, one homer, seven RBI and three runs scored. She opened the weekend by batting 2-4 with two RBI in a 7-2 win over Toledo. She then recorded her first career four-hit game, going 4-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored against Syracuse. On Saturday, she went 1-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in a 3-2 win over Maryland. She got Liberty on the board with an RBI double in the top of the first inning. On Saturday evening, she batted 2-4 with three RBI and one run scored as Liberty shut out Syracuse 7-0. Her first homer of the season, a three-run blast, put Liberty up 3-0 in the second inning.
Pitcher of the Week – Allie Floyd, LA Tech – Senior – East Bernard, Texas
Floyd (4-1) was nearly flawless in the circle for the Bulldogs (12-3) this week, posting a 2-0 record across three appearances, including two complete-game victories. The right-hander logged 20 innings, highlighted by an 11-inning complete-game win and a seven-inning complete-game win. Floyd allowed just eight hits over 20 innings, none for extra bases, with five of the eight coming on bunt singles. She struck out 14 and issued four walks while surrendering only two earned runs. She pitched all 11 innings in Tech’s 3-2 win over ULM on Thursday night, allowing five hits (three bunt singles) and two runs while striking out five. Floyd also tossed a complete game Sunday against Southern Miss, giving up three hits (two bunt singles) with seven strikeouts and no earned runs in a 4-1 victory. Floyd also made a 2.0 inning outing against Northwestern State, where she was perfect in the circle with two strikeouts, not allowing any runs, hits, or walks.
Freshman of the Week – Makenna Moore, Jax State – Pitcher – Grain Valley, Mo.
Moore (3-0) dominated her two starts in the Jax State Tournament for the Gamecocks (11-5), going 1-0 with a 1.27 ERA and an eye-popping 23 strikeouts in just 11 innings in the circle. She surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and limited opponents to a .175 batting average for the week. Moore had 15 strikeouts in a complete game shutout win against DePaul on Saturday, marking the most strikeouts in a game by a Jax State freshman since Tera Ross had 15 in 2001. She allowed just two hits in the game. Moore struck out eight more over four innings in a no-decision against Gardner-Webb.
