TEN: April 8 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS – Western Kentucky’s Virginia Madueño and Delaware’s doubles team of Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska have earned Conference USA’s women’s tennis weekly award recognition. Liberty swept the men’s awards, with Siwanat Auytayakul earning the title of Men’s Tennis Athletes of the Week and the duo of Benjamin Sparks and David Ekpenyong earning Men’s Doubles Team of the Week honors.
 
Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week – Virginia Madueño, WKU – Fr. – Alicante, Spain
Madueño improved to 15-4 in singles play this season with a pair of wins last week at the No. 3 position. The true freshman topped Campbellsville's Valentina Curli 6-1, 6-0 on Thursday, and followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Austin Peay's Luca Bohlen on Saturday. She is now 5-1 at the No. 3 position and has a 6-0 record at No. 4 and a 4-1 record at No. 5 this spring. Madueño's 15 singles wins are tied for sixth-most in a single season in program history and she now ranks second in singles wins in a season among true freshman in program history.
 
Women's Doubles Team of the Week – Delaware
Maryia Hrynashka – Sr. – Rancho Cordova, Calif.
Paulina Jurkowska – Sr. – Redditch, England
Following their third win of the weekend over Johns Hopkins, Hrynashka and Jurkowska tied the program record for most career doubles wins by a pair with 43. On court one, the duo went 3-0 over the past week and have won nine of their last 10 matches. Against Temple, they claimed a 6-2 victory to open the week. Later, after returning to Newark, they went 6-4 over VCU and 6-1 over Johns Hopkins. The pair are now 12-4 in dual action on the year.
 
Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Siwanat Auytayakul, Liberty - So. – Bangkok, Thailand
Auytayakul led Liberty to a 2-0 week with a pair of singles victories at the top of the lineup against No. 56 Old Dominion (4-2) and Elon (5-2). The sophomore bested ODU's Felix Obermair 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 to help the Flames avoid a 3-3 tie and earn a ranked win near the end of the season. He then topped Elon's Veljko Krstic 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (9), fighting off three match points after being down 9-6 in the third set tiebreaker. Auytayakul improved to 9-9 in singles this season and 3-4 in the No. 1 position. He is 5-3 in his last 10 results.
 
Men's Doubles Team of the Week – Liberty
Benjamin Sparks – R-Fr. – Fredricksburg, Texas
David Ekpenyong – Jr. – Akwa Ibom, Nigeria
The duo of Sparks and Ekpenyong guided Liberty doubles with a 2-0 week at No. 1 position with triumphs over No. 56 Old Dominion and Elon. They began the week topping ODU's Adam Majchrzak and Thomas Nelson 6-3 to help secure a crucial doubles point. The pair bested Elon's Veljko Krtsic and Jack Curtis with a 6-2 score. They improved to 9-5 together this season and 4-3 in the No. 1 doubles position.  They are 4-1 in their last five matches together, all in the top doubles slot.
