KENNESAW, Ga. – No. 8 Sam Houston defeated No. 5 LA Tech with a 14-13 victory in the opener of the 2026 CUSA Baseball Championship on Wednesday morning from Mickey Dunn Stadium at Henssler Financial Field on the campus of Kennesaw State. The Bearkats will take on No. 2 Liberty on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET, while the Bulldogs will face off against the Flames on Friday at 10 a.m. ET to round out pool play.
The Sam Houston offense came to life, including a six-run eighth inning.
Ryan Franden ignited the offense with a two-run homer to right field.
Hunter Alvord connected on a three RBI double down left field.
Jeric Curtis finished a perfect 6-6, his six hits set a new single-game CUSA Tournament record. Curtis also tallied a team-high three doubles along with three runs.
Jonathan Anders and
Gabe Winans combined for the final five innings, allowing just two runs and striking out four.
LA Tech’s
Eli Berch finished with a team-high four RBIs, including a three-run 426-foot bomb to left field in the third inning.
Sebastian Mexico went 4-4 with one RBI on the day.
