NEWARK, Del. – No. 4 Delaware plated four runs in the home half of the sixth to break a 7-7 tie and claim an 11-7 victory over No. 5 NM State in its first game at the CUSA Softball Championship on Wednesday evening at the Delaware Softball Diamond.
After the Aggies (27-26) put up a six spot to tie it in the top of the sixth, the Fightin’ Blue Hens (31-22) responded in a big way by scoring all four runs with two outs, capped off by a bases-clearing double from
Caylin Blazys.
The high-powered Delaware offense built an early 7-1 lead thanks to a pair of home runs off the bat of
Maddie Diamond, as well as a three-run blast from
Bridget Chapman.
Delaware’s
Josie Crossman (15-8) earned the win after limiting NM State to one run on three hits through the first five frames before the Aggies got to her in the sixth. NM State’s
Faith Aragon (21-10) suffered the loss after giving up six runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings.
The Blue Hens advance to face top-seeded Jax State at Noon ET Thursday, while the Aggies will face No. 7 LA Tech in an elimination game at 5 p.m. ET Thursday.
