Belote Tied for Lead at NCAA Central-Indiana Regional

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - Jack Belote carded a three-under-par 68 to take a share of the first-round lead at the NCAA Central-Indiana Regional and lead the University of Memphis into eighth position in the 14-team field.

"Jack played really well today," Memphis head coach Grant Robbins said. "He got a couple of tough breaks on the last two holes, but it was a very solid round."

Belote, who started on No. 10 along with the rest of the Tiger golf team, made five birdies and two bogeys en route to grabbing a share of the seven-way tie for the lead. He is tied with Christ Brant (Iowa), Bud Cauley (Alabama), Hunter Hamrick (Alabama), Scott Langley (Illinois), Jack Schutlz (Michigan) and Matt Thompson (Michigan) with two rounds of competition to play.

The Tigers turned in a team score of 292 (+8) in the first round and are in eighth position, just seven shots out of fifth place. The top five teams from the regional advance to the NCAA Championships on May 29-June 1 in Stillwater, Okla.





"The back nine on this course is brutal, and it was tough starting out there. A couple of the guys came out really tight, but they hung in there and we held it together. We just need to get a fourth score tomorrow."

After a double bogey on the seventh hole pushed Jonathan Fly to three-over-par on the day, he battled back with four birdies on the final 11 holes to card an even-par 71 and take a share of 18th place individually.

Grant Milner also recovered from a tough start, shooting one-under on his final nine holes after making five bogeys in the first nine to shoot 75 (+4) and land in tie for 41st position. Steve Lee and Lexus Keoninh are in a tie for 58th after carding seven-over-par 78's in round one at Wolf Run Golf Course.

Illinois carded a seven-under-par team score of 277 to open up a one stroke lead over Alabama and Michigan, Stanford (284), Iowa (285), Tennessee (287) and Florida State (291) are positions four through seven, respectively.
