TF: InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Teams

IRVING, Texas - A total of 22 Conference USA student-athletes representing nine schools were placed on the 2018 InTouch Credit Union Track & Field All-Academic Teams. The honorees are voted on by the league's track & field sports information directors, and student-athletes must hold a minimum 3.2 grade point average and have used a year of eligibility.

Eleven male and 11 female student-athletes earned spots on the all-academic team, with Rice and Louisiana Tech tied for most with four student-athletes on the men's and women's all-academic teams.

*Repeat Honorees

Anne-Catherine Wasser of Florida Atlantic earned her first Conference USA All-Academic Team honors with a 4.0 GPA in public management/psychology. The sophomore competed in 11 meets for the Owls and posted four top-five finishes in the 400m hurdles.

Louisiana Tech junior Kacie Kaufman boasts a 4.0 GPA in communications while having broken two school records in the 3,000m and 10,000m. Fellow teammate Morgan Keesee is majoring in kinesiology & health promotion with a minor in health informatics & information management with a 4.0, and ranks in the top 10 in Louisiana Tech's history books in the weight and hammer throw. Elia Nero earned eight top 10 finishes for the Lady Techsters and owns a 3.905 GPA in political science with a Spanish minor. On the men's side Conner Killian competed in every meet for Louisiana Tech, finishing in the top-five four times in the 3000m and on relay teams.

Agnes Abu of Middle Tennessee earned a second-consecutive all-academic team spot with her 3.784 GPA in community and public health. She finished first in the 800m at the 2018 C-USA Indoor Track & Field Championships and finished 14th at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.

North Texas placed three student-athletes on the all-academic team with Bailey Ashmore, Florian Lussy and Javier Lopez-Ibarra. Ashmore boasts a 4.0 in materials science and engineering and set a school record of 4.05 meters in the pole vault. Lopez-Ibarra hit a mark of 64.17 meters in the javelin to finish second at the 2018 C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and is majoring in finance with a 3.74 GPA. Lussy has earned a 3.93 GPA in recreation sports management and owns two top 10 finishes at the 2018 C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 3000m and 5000m.

Rice placed three repeat honorees and one newcomer on the all-academic teams with redshirt-seniors Scott Filip and Erik Maher, senior Elsa Racasan and junior Charlie Card-Childers. Filip is a three-time all-academic team member who graduated with a 3.61 GPA in sport management in 2017 and is pursuing a graduate degree in global affairs with a 3.72 GPA. In addition to his academic honors, Filip is a four-time heptathlon champion at C-USA Indoor Track & Field Championships and three-time decathlon winner at C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and is currently ranked eighth in the country. Maher earned a first-place finish in the javelin throw at the 2018 C-USA Outdoor Championships with a throw of 65.61 meters and is pursuing a Master of Arts in education with a 3.83 GPA after graduating with a 3.81 in classical studies. Rounding out the men's side for Rice is Card-Childers who boasts a 3.77 GPA in cognitive sciences, and earned a third-place finish in the decathlon and finished fourth in the javelin at the C-USA outdoor championships. Racasan earned her third-consecutive spot on the all-academic team and earned two consecutive victories in the 1500m for the Owls.

Courtney Filliben and Keiyana Gaskin of Southern Miss inked spots on the women's all-academic team, while fellow teammate David Little earned a spot on the men's team. Gaskin finished third in the women's 200m dash at the outdoor and indoor championships, third in the 100m at outdoor and second in 60m dash at indoors, while earning a 3.935 GPA in accounting. Filliben boasts a 3.88 GPA in biological sciences, and placed second in the DMR and third in 800m at the 2018 indoor championship. Little is majoring in nursing with a 3.455 GPA and finished fifth in the 1500m at outdoors.

UTEP's Jonah Koech finished first in both the 800m and 1500m at outdoors, as well as first in the mile and second in the 800m at indoors, and has a 3.24 GPA in management.

Gabriyella Torres is the lone female student-athlete for UTSA on this year's all-academic team and is joined by fellow Roadrunners John von Dohlen and Derek Fenton for the men's side. Dohlen competed in the mile, 3000m and 5000m for the indoor season and graduated in December 2017 with a 3.95 GPA in marketing and is currently taking graduate classes. Junior Roadrunner Fenton is working on a degree in economics with a 3.59 GPA and earned six top-five meet finishes in the shot put this season. Torres boasts a 3.99 GPA in business management and finished fourth in the heptathlon at the C-USA outdoor championships.

WKU's Maor Seged earned his second-consecutive all-academic team honor and Morgan McIntyre nabbed a spot for the first time in her career. McIntyre finished first in the pole vault at both C-USA indoor and outdoor championships and ranks first in C-USA in the women's pole vault, and she owns a 3.75 GPA in communication science disorders. Seged boasts a 3.44 in electrical engineering and has the best 400m hurdle time in C-USA at 52.06 seconds.

The 2018 NCAA Track & Field East and West Preliminaries kick off May 24 and run through the 26th. The east preliminaries are in Tampa, Florida, and being hosted by South Florida, and west preliminaries are hosted by California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California.
