IRVING, Texas – Conference USA had 24 players selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft, which concluded Wednesday. 
 
Six Conference USA players were taken in the first 10 rounds of the draft.  Those players were taken from five different schools, with Southern Miss producing two selections during that span.
 
Florida Atlantic junior SS Tyler Frank was the first player chosen, going to the Tampa Bay Rays in the second round (No. 56 overall).  The C-USA Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-Conference USA selection was playing No. 1 Florida in the Gainesville Regional at the time he was drafted.
 
Southern Miss junior RHP Nick Sandlin, the C-USA Pitcher of the Year, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the second round at No. 67 overall.  Sandlin finished the 2017 season at 10-0 with a 1.06 ERA and 144 strikeouts with just 18 walks in 102.2 innings pitched.
 
Eight Conference USA teams had at least one player chosen, with Florida Atlantic producing the most picks with six.  UTSA had four selections, while Middle Tennessee and Rice each had three chosen.
 
The 24 Conference USA players were taken by 16 different MLB teams, with the Cleveland Indians selecting the most C-USA stars with three.
