Preseason All-American and preseason C-USA Pitcher of the Year Logan Allen turned in a second straight dominant performance on the mound last Friday against George Mason, firing seven scoreless innings of one-hit ball while fanning 13 batters.  The 13 strikeouts tied a career-high in a game for Allen and pushed him to eighth place all-time on the FIU strikeout list.  The Deltona, Florida native’s seven scoreless innings dropped his season ERA to 1.50 and the outing was his 10th career game with double digits K’s.

Charlotte freshman Dominic Pilolli continued his early season tear by hitting .455 (10-for-22) in a 4-1 week for the 49ers.  The Youngstown, Ohio, native batted .526 in the four-game sweep of UMBC with four multiple-hit games, four extra-base hits, six RBI and six runs scored.  In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep, Pilolli went 6-for-8 with two home runs, a triple, six RBI and four runs scored, contributing directly to nine of the 10 runs by the 49ers. In Sunday’s finale, Pilolli added another multi-hit performance, upping his average to .485 on the year and his 16 hits leads Conference USA through two weekends.

Leftfielder Mitchell Hartigan reached base at least twice in every Owls’ game this week, all four Florida Atlantic victories to push the team to 7-0.  He hit a blistering .500 (7-for-14) with four extra bases hits – three doubles and a triple –  got on base at a clip of .579, and slugged .857.  The sophomore from Jupiter, Florida also knocked in five and scored six runs. Against FGCU, he had two doubles, knocked in a run, and came in to close out the ninth with his first collegiate save.  In the opener against Binghamton, he hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to complete the 9-8 comeback win (the Owls were down 8-2 entering the eighth).  In that game, he was 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI.  In the Sunday doubleheader sweep, he began the day by going 2-for-4 with a walk, scored two runs and knocked in a run; in the nightcap, was 1-for-3 with a double, walked twice, scored twice and posted another RBI.  To cap it off, he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to seal the win.
