DADE CITY, Fla. – WKU leads the 2021 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship field after Monday's first day of play at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club (par 72, 6,267 yards). Due to inclement weather, round one was followed by a partial second round that was suspended and set to resume with a 10 a.m. ET shotgun start on Tuesday.

Amid rain and two lightning delays throughout the day, WKU carded a historic team total of 6-under 282 for the first round, marking the third-lowest 18-hole scorecard in program history and best showing in a conference tournament. The Lady Toppers led the 11-team, 56-golfer field by five strokes at the conclusion of the first round, and currently own a six-stroke lead midway through the second.

Megan Clarke paces the championship event after a remarkable first round. Her 7-under 65 tied WKU's 18-hole program record and tied the C-USA Championship record shot by individual champion Megan MacLaren of FIU in 2015. It also meant the lowest round ever recorded by a Lady Topper in conference championship play. Clarke fired seven birdies and 11 pars on the day.

Audrey Tan contributed a 6-under 66 to the Mean Green total as the individual field's runner-up. The tournament's top four participants inked first rounds in the 60s, including Old Dominion juniors

The 2021 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship is being held at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club for the first time after the 2020 tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The format consists of three, 18-hole rounds of stroke play across three days.
